Jaume Bertranpetit i Busquets ( Camprodon, 1952), professor of Biology at the UPF and, since 2007, director of the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA), is the current director of the Evolutionary Biology Unit of the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences (CEXS)  at the UPF.  In February 2010 he was invested as a permanent member of the Biology Section of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona ( RACAB).
He has been linked to the UPF since 1997 where he has held the positions of Dean of Biology and Vice-rector for Research. Previously, he taught Anthropology at the University of Barcelona.
His field of study focuses on understanding the genetic diversity of humans and other upper primates, molecular evolution and the interaction between human evolutionary biology and other disciplines. A disciple of Professor Luca Luigi Cavalli-Sforza , one of the world’s references in the field of human genetics, Bertranpetit has published and directed important research works. He is member of the Institute for Catalan Studies, as well as other international organizations.
