The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. Context And Mission
The main research interest of the comparative genomics group is to understand the complex relationships between genome sequences and phenotypes and how these two features evolve within and across species. We generally use largescale phylogenetics and molecular evolution approaches that allow looking at the evolution of genomes from the perspective of all of their genes, and we apply these analyses to a variety of biological questions related to the evolution and function of biological systems, ranging from individual molecules to entire biological communities.
Key Duties
- Contribute to the development of databases, front-end platforms and associated APIs for the current research projects in the group
- Contribute to ensuring appropriate user experience at the developed front-ends
- Work together with other developers in the group to ensure the appropriate implementation of previously agreed standards and methodologies
Requirements

Education
- At least CFGS (higher-education diploma awarded on completion of professional education and training) in web development or equivalent.

Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Knowledge of web frontend technologies such as NPM, Yarn, Bower, Grunt, Gulp, webpack, or/and HTML, CSS and JavaScript ecosystems
- Knowledge with programming languages such as Python, R or Java
- Experience working with Unix/Linux systems
- Familiar with design, implementation and deployment of relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL or similar) and/or non-relational databases (MongoDB, ElasticSearch, Cassandra)

Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Experience in microservices software architecture
- Experience with front-end frameworks, like Angular, Vue and/or React will be highly appreciated
- Experience in designing, implementing and documenting data management APIs
- Experience with containers Docker / Singularity
- Fluent in Spanish and capacity to work in English.

Conditions
- The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department
- We offer a part-time contract, a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
- Duration: linked to the internship agreement with the university
- Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
- Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
- Starting date: 16/05/2024
