Biography

I presently work on the biological carbon pump: the process by which marine microbes take up atmospheric carbon dioxide and export it to the deep ocean in form of sinking particles. In the ORCAS project I will combine numerical models (PISCES) and observations made by autonomous floats (bio-ARGO) to better understand and predict this climate-relevant process. Until recently, most of my research revolved around marine biogenic sulfur emissions and their influence on aerosols and climate. During my PhD at the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM, Barcelona) I used diverse experimental approaches and meta-analyses to understand the effect of sunlight on plankton dimethylsulfide (DMS) production. During my postdoc at Laval University (Quebec) I developed DMS-SAT, an algorithm that allows estimating marine DMS emission from remote sensing data.
