Context And Mission

The aim of the Earth System Services Group (ESS) within the Earth Sciences Department is to demonstrate the ongoing value of climate prediction services, atmospheric composition and weather forecasting to society and the economy. The group actively works on identifying user needs that partly guide research in the Department. The goal is to quantify the impact of weather, climate, aerosols and gaseous pollutants upon socio-economic sectors through the development of user-oriented services. This ensures the transfer of the technology developed and the adaptation to a rapidly changing environment.

The ESS group is looking for a Social scientist from any nationality to design, evaluate and improve user co-production processes. The candidate will co-lead the Knowledge and Integration Team (KIT). The candidate will be in close contact with climate scientists and both potential and advanced users of climate information. The objective is to interact and build trust within these target users, understand their climate information needs and expectations from climate services. Applying social sciences methods, the successful candidate will propose knowledge co-production approaches for a more effective integration of users’ knowledge in climate services research, enhancing transdisciplinarity of the Earth Sciences Department.
The successful candidate is expected to learn about the research topics of the projects, plan and carry out stakeholder engagement activities at the international level and participate in research activities of the ESS. Experience in multidisciplinary and international teams, proved experience in organisation of stakeholder engagement activities and solid knowledge in participatory science are key for the position.
The successful candidate will be part of a diverse and international team of scientists, communication specialists and technical experts. The selected candidate will benefit from expert training and BSC-CNS staff benefits: international multidisciplinary scientific environment and advanced applied research training.
