New Call for the HPC Europa 3 programme

13 September 2019

Visiting researchers have the opportunity to be hosted for a period for up 3 months at BSC.

The next closing date of the 9th call will be on Thursday 19th September 2019.

Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) participates in the 3rd edition of HPC-Europa3 project (Transnational Access Programme for a Pan-European Network of HPC Research Infrastructures and Laboratories for scientific computing), which aims to provide access to most of the top European HPC centres. The objective of the programme is enable access to advanced computing infrastructures to researchers across the world in order to promote collaborative research involving scientists from different countries, and provide training to scientists in high performance computing. Within this programme, visiting researchers have the opportunity to be hosted for a period for up 3 months at BSC and to use the centre’s resources. The hosting research group can also benefit from the program, with the collaboration and the identification of young talented scientists. The visiting researchers receive financial support to cover all expenses during the stay, including accommodation and travel costs. A raise in visit stipend is expected depending on each country of destination.

The HPC-Europa3 Transnational Access program is open to researchers of all levels, from any discipline, which can make use of HPC (MareNostrum). Visits can be carried out at the BSC, but also at the Spanish Supercomputing Network centres (RES). Additionally, BSC researchers can use this program to visit the associated research institutes in Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the UK. Applicants must currently be working in an EU member state or Associated State. Applicants may not apply for a visit within the country where they currently work. Calls for applications are held 4 times per year. The next closing date of the 9th call will be on Thursday 19th September 2019.

The HPC-Europa3 project receives funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and will be active until end of 2021.

HPC Europa 3 programme offers:

  • Access to world-class HPC systems to academic and industrial researchers
  • Scientific collaboration with host researchers in any field
  • Technical support by the HPC centres
  • Travel and living expenses reimbursed

Spain leads the statistics of applications to the programme.
