The Associate Director of BSC has been recognized for his career leading the center and for promoting research from public administration
The Associate Director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) has received the Honorary Award at the 30.ª Nit de les Telecomunicacions i la Informàtica, organized jointly by the Catalan Association of Telecommunication Engineering and Digital Technologies (Telecos.cat) and the Official College of Computer Engineering of Catalonia (COEINF).
The awards jury recognized Martorell for his extensive experience in the strategic management of institutions within the academic and scientific fields, with a key role in promoting research from the Catalan public administration. His work and dedication have been crucial in positioning the Barcelona Supercomputing Center as a leading European institution.
The Nit de les Telecomunicacions i la Informàtica is the pioneering and leading institutional event in the Telecommunications and Information Technologies sector, held in Barcelona since 1995. This 30th edition has reaffirmed the dynamism of the Catalan technology sector, which now represents 10% of Catalonia’s GDP and includes 16,000 companies, according to data from the 2024 Catalonia Technology Sector Barometer.
Before an audience of over 1,000 professionals—and with the presence of Minister of the Presidency, Albert Dalmau; Secretary General of Telecommunications, Matías González; and Barcelona’s Fourth Deputy Mayor, Jordi Valls—, the Nit de les Telecomunicacions i la Informàtica has solidified itself as the networking event of the year for the ICT sector.
In addition to Martorell, other awardees included Mike Blackman, CEO of International System Europe (ISE), who received the Special Jury Award, as well as: Ana Pérez Neira, Director of CTTC, Outstanding Personality Award; Rosa Maria Cortada, from Intermon-Oxfam, Outstanding CIO Award; LuxQuanta, a Catalan quantum cryptography start-up, Entrepreneurship Award; the Club of Polytechnic Women, Social Commitment Award; Mariola Dinarès, creator of PopAp, Communication and Outreach Award; and Lucía Pallarés, a student at UAB, Young Talent Award.
