Biography

Dr Dani Gallart studied fundamental physics at Universitat de Barcelona (UB). After obtaining his degree in physics in 2013 with merit he enrolled the nuclear engineering MSc at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC-ETSEIB) where he obtained one of the grants from Fundació Catalunya - La Pedrera. During his Master thesis he joined the Barcelona Supercomputing Center Fusion group (CASE) under the supervision of ICREA Prof. Mervi Mantsinen and finished his MSc thesis with honours in 2015. During this period he was awarded one of Fundació "La Caixa" grants in order to start his PhD. He developed his PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Mervi Mantsinen and finished with honours in 2019. After finishing his PhD studies he was appointed as Scientific Coordinator for the D-T modelling task at the Joint European Torus (JET) in Oxford, UK, position that he held until JET's closure in 2023. His work is mainly focused on fast particle physics and plasma heating. He is presently working as an Established Researcher where he develops and coordinates different projects within the Fusion Group, devoted to advancing the simulation capabilities for building the first Digital Twin of a Fusion Reactor. As of 2024, he became a member of the EUROfusion HPC allocation committee. Finally, Dr Dani Gallart keeps working and collaborating with the main European fusion facilities specially JET, Wendelstein 7-X (W7X) in Greifswald, Germany, and Asdex Upgrade (AUG) in Garching, Germany, under the EUROfusion umbrella.
