Pol Pastells I Vila

Primary tabs

Pol Pastells received a bachelor’s degree in fundamental physics from the Universitat de Barcelona in 2020. During his undergraduate studies, Pol worked at the ALBA Synchrotron, where he studied the instabilities of electron bunches and was a summer student at DESY, doing work related to plasma wakefield acceleration. He did his bachelor thesis on epidemic dynamics of a mutating virus on complex networks.

Upon completing his degree, he worked as a consultat for the financial sector, before going on to the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona to pursue a MSc in Modelling for Science and Engineering,  which was awarded in 2021. His master’s thesis was done at IEEC-CSIC, developing new numerical methods for the computation of the self-force around Black Holes. At the same time he also kept studying epidemic models at IIIA-CSIC. Pol joined the Fusion group at BSC in July 2021 shortly after defending his master’s thesis, within the FusionCAT project. Here he works with ALYA HPC Finite Element software for fusion multi-physics applications, and studies Alfvénic instabilities and ICRH heating in stellarators such as TJ-II and W7-X.
