MareNostrum Supercomputer has allocated 32 million hours of calculation to the Nobel Prize for Physics winning project

The research done in the framework of LiGO project, awarded for having detected gravitational waves as predicted by Einstein, has been using the MareNostrum through Dr Sascha Husa, Theoretical Physics Professor of the University of Illes Balears (Spain) and member of the project.

Spain becomes the country that allocates more calculation hours to European science

Spain will allocate 475 million core hours of its supercomputer MareNostrum to 17 projects led by scientists from seven European countries that have been selected in the last call of PRACE. This makes the supercomputer of Barcelona Supercomputing Center the largest contributor in number of hours to European research.

Jesús Labarta, the first European researcher to receive Ken Kennedy award

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and IEEE Computer Society IEEE CS) have named Prof. Jesús Labarta, Computer Sciences director at Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), as the recipient of the 2017 ACM-IEEE CS Ken Kennedy Award. Labarta is the first non-American researcher to receive this recognition.

Carlos Pérez García-Pando, awarded with the Agustín de Betancourt prize for young researchers

The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAI) has awarded researcher Carlos Pérez García-Pando, AXA Professor at BSC, the Agustín de Betancourt y Molina prize for young researchers.
