The collaboration lines foresee the development of Large Language Models (LLMs), applications for meteorology and climate change, adaptation of computational models, and software optimization processes
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) and the leading AI technology company Nvidia have reached a collaboration agreement to jointly develop innovative solutions over the next five years, merging supercomputing and Artificial Intelligence, optimizing and integrating public platforms and models.
The new agreement, running parallel to a previously signed one focused on networking solutions, may extend beyond the initially agreed five years and includes a review of collaboration lines every six months.
Initially, the new collaboration lines between BSC and Nvidia will focus on developing Large Language Models (LLMs), applications for meteorology and climate change, adapting the computational model of the digital twin of the heart developed in the Alya project to different platforms, and software optimization processes for GPUs and ARM - Nvidia Grace architectures, specially designed for AI and large-scale supercomputing applications.
The scientific potential of BSC, with top-level researchers specialized in system development and optimization, combined with Nvidia's technological leadership and expertise in implementing business solutions, will maximize the computing capacity of the new MareNostrum 5, ultimately aiming to develop applications facilitating significant advances in various scientific fields.
