Context and Mission

The Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (CASE) department at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher with a PhD in neutron transport simulations to work in the BSC Fusion group (fusion.bsc.es). The successful candidate will become an active member of the group’s research projects. The group is multidisciplinary and works in close collaboration with the EUROfusion programme (www.euro-fusion.org) and ITER (www.iter.org).

 

Key Duties

  • Actively participate in the use, development and improvements of HPC fusion applications involving different state-of-the-art technologies and deterministic neutron transport calculations
  • Supervise students working in the project
  • Present group’s research results at national and international meetings
  • Apply for competitive grants and projects and actively collaborate in the preparation of proposals for calls of projects
  • Participate in the dissemination of the group research

 

Requirements

  • Education
    • PhD in Physics, Nuclear Engineering, High Performance Computing or similar

 

  • Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Experience in neutron transport simulations
    • Experience in international collaborative research projects
    • Experience in programming especially in FORTRAN
    • Experience in parallel programming models: MPI and OpenMP
    • Strong skills in Linux environment (shell, build, configure…)
    • Experience using version control systems as svn or git

 

  • Competences
    • Capability to work as member of a research team, but also independently
    • Problem-solving, pro-active, result-oriented work attitude
    • Capability to work in an international and fast-paced work environment towards tight deadlines
    • Excellent communication skills including a good command of the English language (written and spoken) are required

 

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the CASE Department
  • We offer a full-time contract, a good working environment, flexible hours, Tickets Restaurant and a medical assurance
  • Duration of the contract: until 31/12/18 (extendable)
  • Starting date: ASAP
