Context and Mission of the role

The Operations Department ensures the continuous daily functioning of the RES supercomputers and remote access by users both within Spain and internationally. In addition to all the routine maintenance and operations tasks, the Department staff is also heavily involved in planning and designing new systems and support facilities. At the moment we are looking for a System administrator that will be in charge of the tasks below.

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the installation, maintenance, update and troubleshooting of servers and computer services center
  • Responsible for the application and management of hardware incidents of the supercomputer MareNostrum and the others BSC infrastructures
  • Support at a level systems to other clusters of the Spanish Supercomputing Network (RES)
  • Configuration and maintenance of the IT services of the center (email, database, backups, etc)
  • Support to European projects related to the operations department

 

Requirements

  • Education
    •  Minimum university qualification required:  Diploma or technical degree, preferably in IT

 

  • Knowledge and professional experience
    • System Administration on UNIX (preferably Linux)
    • Configuration and service management
    • Advanced knowledge in the use of UNIX platforms, experience will be assessed on Linux
    • Experience of 1-2 years (min)

 

Competences

In order to be successful in this role the candidate should have:

 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to work in a professional environment within a multidisciplinary and international team

 

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Operations Department in collaboration with the specific program coordinator
  • A competitive salary will be provided, matched to the cost of living in Barcelona, depending on the value of the candidate
  • Duration of the contract: 1 year renewable
  • Starting date: asap
