Context And Mission

Applications are invited for a postdoc position in High Performance Computing (HPC) architectures at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). BSC is seeking a postdoc researcher to contribute to the design of an accelerator for Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) in the context of a project with Huawei.

The postdoc will accelerate quantum-resistant algorithms defined in the NIST international PQC competition using FPGAs. Such accelerators will be integrated in a RISC-V System-on-Chip (SoC) with the help of other research engineers and students in the team.

Key Duties

  • Define an FPGA-based accelerator for different PQC algorithms using high-level synthesis.
  • Understand PQC performance bottlenecks and propose improved implementations on the FPGA.
  • Design and implement a RISC-V accelerator for PQC using HDL. This accelerator will be prototyped in an FPGA. The candidate will contribute to a continuous co-design cycle during the project and will lead the team of students and engineers that will implement the accelerator.
  • Use RTL simulators and an FPGA emulator to evaluate the RISC-V accelerator. The candidate will modify these tools to accommodate novel architecture ideas.
  • Write high-quality technical reports and papers.

Requirements

  • Education
    • PhD in Computer Sciences or related fields
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Deep understanding of FPGA-based accelerators and FPGA prototyping using HLS and HDL.
    • Deep understanding of high-performance computing architectures and accelerators, including vector accelerators and memory hierarchy.
    • Performance analysis and tuning of parallel applications.
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Post-quantum cryptography algorithms (including lattice-based) knowledge is desirable, but not required.
  • Competences
    • Ability to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines pressure.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team.
    • Capacity to interact and build strong relations with other research groups.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department
