Context And Mission

The Computer Architecture and Operating System group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center aims at carrying out research on programming models for critical embedded systems in charge of controlling fundamental parts of cars, airplanes and satellites. Our work is mainly done in the context of bilateral projects with several processor companies as well as several European-funded projects. The objective of this position is (1) to obtain funds from EC project calls, ESA calls, Spanish/Catalan calls, and bilateral projects with industry; (2) to be the PI of multiple projects simultaneously driving the strategy and managing a group of postdocs, engineers and PhD/master students; (3) to publish scientific papers in international conferences and journals; (4) to supervise PhD and Master students; (5) to drive collaborations with other groups at BSC and other institutions worldwide; and (6) to lead existing and new research lines in the CAOS group. This work is expected to occur in the context of microprocessor and accelerator designs for critical embedded systems (CES) for space, avionics and automotive domains; timing analysis tools and methods for CES; probabilistic and mathematical analysis of non-functional properties of systems (namely timing, power, energy, aging, etc); benchmarking of HPC systems in the embedded domain; and cross-pollination topics including embedded systems and HPC know-how.

Key Duties

  • Write project proposals and coordinate their writing with partners in the area of Critical Embedded Systems (CES)
  • Set relationships with industry and academia in the area of CES.
  • Be the BSC Principal Investigator (PI) of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Set research priorities and guide research of a group of postdocs, engineers and students.
  • Publish in top conferences and journals in the area of CES.
  • Supervise PhD and master students

Requirements

  • Education
    • PhD in Electronics, Computer Sciences or Telecommunications
    • Other degrees helpful for management tasks (Psychology, Philosophy, Humanities, History, etc)
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • More than 10 years of experience on the demanded tasks in industry and academia
    • Experience being the institution PI or Work-Package leader for at least 3 EC projects (FP7 or H2020)
    • Strong publication record (100+ publications in top conferences and journals in computer science)
    • Strong experience advising students (10+ PhD/Master students graduated under his/her supervision)
    • Experience attracting funds above 1M€ in the last 3 years
    • Strong knowledge on processor microarchitecture for embedded processors (Arm, Infineon, NXP, Gaisler, etc.)
    • Experience on statistics and/or mathematics research
    • Experience electronics related to processor designs
    • Experience on functional safety for automotive, avionics and/or space systems
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Knowledge on compilers is welcome
    • Experience teaching in master programs is welcome
  • Competences
    • Problem-solving, pro-active, result-oriented work attitude
    • Good communication skills including a good command of the English language (written and spoken)
