It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is a hosting member of the PRACE European distributed supercomputing infrastructure. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. Context And Mission

In the context of an internal BSC-LENOVO project, we are developing an energy management framework offering energy monitoring, control, and optimization. Energy monitoring allows system administrators to have a deep knowledge about the system behavior in terms of hardware and applications execution. EAR provides joined information, nodes and applications, for a better understanding. From the point of view of energy control, EAR offers the mechanism to monitor and limit the maximum energy consumption for a given period. Finally, EAR offers a runtime library for energy/power optimization targeted to MPI+OpenMP jobs.

Key Duties

  • Development and evaluation of specific components for the runtime library and the rest of the EAR components
  • Development and evaluation of the DB related features implemented in EAR
  • Development and evaluation of the communication mechanisms integrated in EAR
  • Participate in the internal project meetings
  • Participate in publications resulting of the project and attendance to project meetings or demonstrations if required

Requirements

  • Education
    • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Software computing skills. Experience on programming languages (specially C), and development tools such as Makefiles or autotools (>=2 years of experience)
    • Experience in software development in UNIX/LINUX environments is required(>=2 years of experience)
    • Skills on parallel programming. Experience on MPI and OpenMP programming models
    • DB programming experience (MySQL/Postgress). Command line and API (expert)
    • Skills on system software, with emphasis on communication mechanism
    • Skills on low level software programming such as assembler code or hardware counter access
  • Competences
    • Candidates must be proactive, self-motivated individuals who can understand technical concepts
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
    • Ability to take initiatives, prioritize the tasks and work under set deadlines
    • Capacity to interact and build strong relations with a diverse members/stakeholder/staff base
    • Ability to work both independently and within a team

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department
  • We offer a full-time contract, a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, tickets restaurant, private health insurance, fully support to the relocation procedures
  • Duration: Temporary - 2 years renewable
  • Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
  • Starting date: April 2020
