Context And Mission

BSC is seeking a research engineer to contribute to the design of an offload-style RISCV-based high-performance vector floating point accelerator, in collaboration with Huawei. The engineer will adapt relevant high-performance computing codes (E.g. Linpack, HPCG, ...) to the targeted architecture. Architectural simulations and FPGA-based emulation methodologies will be used.

Key Duties

  • To understand high-performance computing codes (E.g Linpack and HPCG), synthetize their computational requirements, and adapt them to the RISC-V accelerator. The candidate will contribute to a continuous co-design cycle during the project.
  • To use an architecture simulator and a FPGA-emulator infrastructure. The candidate will modify these tools to accommodate some architecture ideas.
  • To write high-quality technical reports and papers.

Requirements

  • Education
    • Master or PhD in Computer Science
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Deep Understanding of the most relevant high-performance computing codes (Linpack, HPCG, etc.) and kernels (DGEMM, SpMV, FFT, N-body, etc.), including both inter-node communications (E.g. MPI), intra-node parallelism (E.g. OpenMP) and low level optimizations.
    • Deep understanding of high-performance computing architectures, including floating-point accelerators (GPUs, vector architectures).
    • Deep understanding of architecture simulators, performance analysis tools and performance modeling methodologies.
  • Competences
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Ability to establish and develop research collaborations with external patterns.
    • Ability to present ideas and results in a precise and succint way.

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department
