Context And Mission

The Text Mining Unit of the BSC focuses on the application and development of biomedical text mining technologies, which are becoming a key tool for the efficient exploitation of information, contained in unstructured data repositories including the scientific literature, electronic health records (EHRs), patents, biobank metadata, clinical trials and social media. The unit has a particular interest in processing clinical documents written in Spanish and other co-official languages in the area of health-related topics and the integration of molecular and biological information derived from the literature.
We search for a technician who will be responsible for the integration/development of data, applications and NLP tools, and other infrastructures of the unit in the framework of a European Research project.

Key Duties

  • Adaptation and Integration of NLP components.
  • Development of mechanisms for the integration of resources and a data warehouse in the context of NLP applications.
  • Support in the design of a clinical NLP infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Education
    • University degree in computer science, telecommunications, bioinformatics, electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Experience with NLP frameworks (e.g. UIMA, GATE, NLTK, OpenNLP…).
    • Demonstrated experience with UNIX environments.
    • Demonstrated experience in the development and integration of software tools.
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Demonstrated experience installing and configuring servers, hardware, operating systems, databases and applications.
    • Strong programming skills in at least one of the following languages: Java, Python, C++, Scala.
    • Demonstrable use of source code repositories (e.g. Github, BitBucket, Sourceforge).
    • Experience with Web Services (e.g. RESTful)
    • Experience and demonstrable interest in processing biomedical or clinical data.
    • Experience in/with cloud computing, docker, docker swarms and VMs and knowledge related to data Warehouses.
  • Competences
    • Fluent in Spanish and capacity to work in English.

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department

  • Duration: Temporary - 1 year renewable
