Context And Mission

The Computational Genomics group within the Life Science Department at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, offers a PhD position in bioinformatics to develop and apply new tools for genome analysis in the context of the Cancer Genome project. This activity will be key to understand basic genomic processes related to tumor formation and progression, as well as to make possible the instauration of the Precision Medicine. Our group has been intensively involved in several world-wide initiatives that aim to understand the genomic basis of Cancer to, ultimately, generate and developed personalized treatments for tumors. This has positioned us and the center among the top institutions involved in the analysis of disease genomes. The selected student will be dealing with the analysis of genomic variation in cancer and, in particular, with the chromosomal rearrangements observed in oncogenic processes. This research frame offers young scientist a unique opportunity to develop their bioinformatic skills in the growing field of biomedical genomics. This activity will be carried out within a dynamic group that combines biological and computer sciences to seed light into the genetic basis of disease.
