Context And Mission
The Earth System Services Group (ESS) at the Earth Sciences Department conducts interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research to enhance societal value of climate prediction services, atmospheric composition and weather forecasting. The group actively engages with society, decision-makers, and businesses to exchange knowledge and develop user-oriented services. The aim of the ESS is to enhance knowledge exchange and technology transfer and improve resilience, by accelerating adaptation to a rapidly changing environment.
The ESS group is looking for a candidate with experience in science communication from any nationality to develop future narratives of climate change. The selected person will closely collaborate with a diverse and international team of natural scientists, social scientists, and communication experts, as well as potential and advanced users of climate and environmental information. Combining science communication activities and storytelling, the candidate will work to develop actionable and equitable narratives that can inform climate discussions for adaptation and mitigation.
The successful candidate is expected to participate in ongoing scientific activities of the ESS group and to carry out communication and dissemination tasks that support engagement with stakeholders in the framework of various EU-funded projects. Experience working in interdisciplinary and international teams, proved experience in the creation of scientific contents, design-related tasks, and previous knowledge on the topic of climate change adaptation are key for the position.

Key Duties
- Conduct research on climate-related science communication, future climate change narratives, storylines, knowledge integration and other topics related to the ESS research lines
- Plan, coordinate and carry out communication, dissemination and user engagement tasks in various EU-funded projects (e.g. IDAlert, EERIE, DestinE, Climateurope2, etc.)
- Develop the content and format of user-oriented dissemination materials and/or coordinate with external providers for their preparation (e.g. explainers, booklets, videos, websites, etc.)
- Coordinate with other projects and initiatives to organize technical dissemination and user engagement activities in international conferences and workshops and liaise with academic partners with communications background
- Work on the documentation and evaluation of undertaken actions and prepare reports needed for successful project development
- Travel to relevant conferences, workshops, and project meetings to present the outcomes of communication, dissemination and user engagement activities
Requirements

Education
- PhD and/or MSc in science communication, social science or natural science-related disciplines

Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Previous expertise in the topic of climate change adaptation and/or climate narratives or discourses
- More than two years of experience in managing science communication and dissemination activities in EU-funded projects

Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and policy dialogue will be highly valued
- Experience in writing research project proposals will be appreciated

Competences
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including technical writing and collaboration in scientific papers
- Ability to work collaboratively in a professional environment within an interdisciplinary and international team
- Good public speaking skills
- Proactivity, creativity, and high sense of responsibility
Conditions
- The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department
- We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
- Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
- Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
- Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
