Context and Mission

The Geophysical Applications group of the Computer Applications in Science and Engineering department of BSC-CNS seeks outstanding scientists in the field of geophysics who can contribute to the development of state-of-the-art 3D geophysical imaging tools. The candidate will be in charge of developments related to 3D modelling with parallel, high-order algorithms, as well as their optimization in target HPC platforms. The researcher is expected to collaborate intensively with software engineers and developers and report on its findings at internal meetings, meetings with our sponsor and international conferences.

 

Key Duties

  • R&D related to geophysical simulations
  • Development and testing of novel mathematical approaches for wave propagation
  • Contribution to relevant scientific journals and conferences

 

Requirements

  • Education
    • B.Sc. in Physics or Computational Sciences AND a Ph.D. in a topic relevant to the mission of the researcher

 

  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Applied mathematics, Wave propagation in 3D, Geophysics, Parallel Computing, High-Performance Computing, MPI, openMP
    • At least one-year experience at the post-doc level in wave propagation problems or geophysics
    • Programming languages: C, Matlab, Fortan

 

  • Competences
    • Problem-solving, pro-active, result-oriented work attitude
    • Capability to work in an international and fast-paced work environment
    • Good communication skills including
    • Languages: English(fluent) – Spanish (Basic)
