Context And Mission
Within BSC-CNS lies the scientific visualization group, in charge of designing, creating, and implementing data visualizations and computer interfaces for data manipulation and exploration. The group is involved in academic and industrial projects combining data visualization and analytics. As part of our work, we develop graphical interfaces for exploration of multi-layer geolocated information, in general using interactive data visualizations coming from high performance computing scientific simulations, allowing users to filter, search, and make informed decisions. We are looking for a web programmer focused on frontend components with some knowledge of backend technologies.
Key Duties
  • Implement GUIs in a web environment, in collaboration with senior developers, UX/UI designers, the users
  • Collaborate and assist with other projects of the group where the same technology layers can be reused
  • Education
    • Bachelor or equivalent degree in Computer Science, or another qualification provided that the candidate can justify having acquired the needed capabilities and skills for the vacancy
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • 1 - 3 years of working experience as a Frontend Developer
    • Strong HTML, CSS & Javascript knowledge
    • Experience with Javascript ES6+
    • A good understanding of modern frontend technologies such as NPM, Yarn, Webpack, CSS Preprocessors, etc.
    • A good understanding of making applications both accessible and responsive
    • Experience with Version control
    • Clean, scalable and maintainable code
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Experience with modern frontend libraries/frameworks such as React/Redux, Vue or anything similar
    • Experience working with other libraries such as D3, Three.js, WebGL, or any other creative coding/visualization library
    • Experience with mapping libraries such as Leaflet.js, Mapbox,, etc
    • Experience working with TDD
  • Competences
    • Detail oriented. Being able to fully translate UX/UI designs into action
    • Problem solver
    • A Github, Codepen, or anything similar where we can see some of your code
  • The position will be located at BSC within the CASE Department

  • Duration: Temporary - 1 year renewable
  • Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
