Context And Mission

BSC is conducting research and development projects in the area of management and exploitation of Edge Computing Infrastructures. This position is part of the Intel-BSC collaboration, and the selected candidate will join the Data-centric Computing Research Group at BSC (bsc.es/datacentric).
We are opening 1 Post-Doc Position to work on the characterization of Edge Computing workloads. The work will revolve around topics such as Flash Memory (NVMe or similar interfaces), and integration with FPGAs and other accelerators.

Key Duties

  • Characterize typical Edge Computing applications (Speech Analytics, Video Analytics, vCDN, among others)
  • Explore the impact of resource allocation for the Edge Workloads
  • Study the performance/energy/cost tradeoffs of using several types of accelerators (FPGA, NVMe) for these applications
  • Performance testing metholodoly

Requirements

  • Education
    • MsC in Computer Sciences, Telecommunications or related discipline
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • 2 or more years of experience with OpenCL or CUDA
    • Knowledge about accelerators and their use in applications
    • Strong Knowledge of Network Protocols and High Performance Networks (Infiniband, OmniPath, RDMA)
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Excellent computing skills in high level computer languages (especially Java and C++ and Web Technologies) and experience with UNIX/LINUX environments and scripting languages
  • Competences
    • Fluency in English essential: regular written and spoken communication in English will be required
    • Ability to work independently and in a team
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines and pressure

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department

  • Duration: Temporary - 7 months renewable
