Context and Mission

The Computer Sciences (CS) department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center aims at carrying out research and development to influence the way computing machines are built, programmed and used. The Workflows and Distributed Computing group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center aims at carrying out research on programming models for distributed computing. More specifically, this group is developing the PyCOMPSs/COMPSs (see compss.bsc.es) programming model and it is integrating it with new storage technologies. For this research, the group is looking for a junior developer.

 

Key Duties

  • Support to PyCOMPSs/COMPSs users
  • Set-up of PyCOMPSs/COMPSs releases
  • Installation and administration of PyCOMPSs/COMPSs distributions in the BSC supercomputers and others
  • General support and maintenance of the programming model and runtime (small bug-fixing)
  • Development of PyCOMPSs/COMPSs applications integrating with the storage solutions from BSC (Hecuba and dataClay)
  • Applications’ testing
  • Preparation of PyCOMPSs/COMPSs demonstrations

 

Requirements

  • Education
    • University Degree or Master in Computer Science

 

  • Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Expertise in Java, C/C++ and Python programming (needed)
    • Knowledge of tools to build and deploy environments (Jenkins)(non mandatory, but will be valued)
    • Knowledge of distributed programming models (non mandatory, but will be valued)
    • Knowledge of runtime systems (non mandatory, but will be valued)
    • Knowledge about databases (Casandra or similar) (non mandatory, but will be valued)

 

  • Competences
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish
    • Capacity to interact and build strong relations with a diverse members/stakeholder/staff base
    • Ability to work both independently and within a team

 

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department
