Context And Mission

This position is open within the context of the CMUG-CCI+ project to undertake some of the tasks there envisaged related to the evaluation of the decadal climate predictions with EC-Earth against selected satellite products from ESA

Key Duties

  • Assessing the predictive capacity in the EC-Earth predictions for the global cloud coverage, sea surface temperatures, sea level, and other related quantities
  • Explore the sensitivity of the results to observational uncertainties
  • Contribution to Project deliverables from related projects.


  • Education
    • Having Bachelor degree is required
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Proven computing skills, preferably in programming languages commonly used in Earth sciences (such as R, python and/or fortran)
    • Experience with UNIX/LINUX environments and scripting languages
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • A solid mathematical and statistical background is desirable
  • Competences
    • Fluency in English
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work both independently and within a team
    • Capacity to take initiatives, prioritize tasks and work under set deadlines


  • The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department

  • Duration: Temporary - 4 months renewable
  • Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
  • Starting date: 01/02/2021
