Context and Mission of the role

The Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (CASE) department is looking for an internship student to work in the BSC Fusion group (fusion.bsc.es). The successful candidate will become an active member of the group. The group is a multidisciplinary team that includes mathematicians, physicists and computer scientists. The research project will be decided based on the research interests of the successful candidate and the needs of the projects.

 

Responsibilities

  • Computer-based modelling using state-of-art simulations tools.
  • Development and validation of simulations tools.

 

Requirements

 

  • Education
    • Degree in physics or computer science
    • Master degree in plasma physics, fusion, nuclear engineering or HPC is advantageous

 

  • Knowledge
    • Experience in programming/modelling, especially in FORTRAN.
    • Knowledge of plasma physics and plasma transport phenomena is advantageous.

 

  • Professional Experience
    • Previous experience in research projects is favorable.
  • Competences
    • Flexible team player capable of working with others but also independently.
    • Problem-solving, pro-active, result-oriented work attitude.
    • Capability to work in an international and fast-paced work environment towards tight deadlines.
    • Excellent communication skills including a good command of the English language (written and spoken) are required

 

Conditions

The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Applications in Science and Engineering department under the supervision of the specific program coordinator. The contract is planned for half a year initially (renewable) and can be either on full or part-time basis.
