Description

TransBioNet was created in 2018 as part of the mission of the Spanish National Bioinformatics Institute (INB) to increase the translational impact of its activities in the Spanish National Health System (SNS). TransBioNet was born as an initiative open to all bioinformatics units and groups that develop their activity in hospital environments. Initially, the network was focused on the Institutes of Health Research (IIS) certified by the National Institute of Health Carlos III (ISCIII), but soon has been extended to all those units and groups with similar challenges and opportunities.

The objective of this project is to fund the activities that the network has been developing, so that they can be enhanced and consolidated over time. TransBioNet can play a key role, along with other professional groups, in the implementation of regional and national precision medicine programmes. In fact, the connections between TransBioNet and initiatives such as ELIXIR and the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH), thanks to the work of the INB groups, are essential to ensure that the developments in these initiatives and international organizations are rapidly adopted by TransBioNet members.

Within the scope of this project, the governance structure of the network will be consolidated, different actions will be implemented to promote the exchange and interactions between the members of the network, and reference data sets will be generated for TransBioNet activities as well as for groups with similar challenges outside the network. We trust that this project will consolidate the actions that have been initiated, and in partnership with other relevant stakeholders in the sector (e.g. professional societies) will have an impact at the national level and beyond, for instance, in Latin America.
