INB-2017 - AValencia: Plataforma de Recursos Biomoleculares y Bioinformáticos

Description

INB, the Spanish National Bioinformatics Institute, is a network founded in 2003 by Genoma España with the objective of promoting the development of bioinformatics in Spain. The network is formed by 10 nodes located at 9 different institutions and its central node coordinates the interactions of the INB nodes within the network and beyond. Currently, the INB is part of the Technological Platform for Biomolecular and Bioinformatics resources (PRB) by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII). The current grant for the INB was awarded for 4 years (2014 - 2017) and its budget is managed by the PRB.The INB serves in the coordination, integration and development of Spanish bioinformatics resources in projects in the areas of genomics, proteomics and translational medicine. It has contributed to the creation of a consistent computational infrastructure in the area of bioinformatics, participated in national and international genome projects, and trained bioinformatics users and developers.

ELIXIR (European Life Science Infrastructure for Biological Information) is a pan-european organization founded in 2014 which aims to integrate and harmonize European bioinformatics infrastructures. ELIXIR coordinates the participation of more than 20 countries, engages with other strategic european initiatives and projects e.g. ESFRI, Research Data Alliance, EUDAT, EGI; promotes specific training activities and workshops on ELIXIR resources, partners with industry, and play a key role in shaping the bioinformatics landscape. Spain is member of ELIXIR since 2015, with the INB as the Spanish national node. Within ELIXIR, the INB is responsible for the bioinformatics infrastructure offered by Spain, and therefore, should guarantee its alignment to the strategic areas put forward by ELIXIR.
