Biography
José Carlos Carrasco-Jiménez is a researcher in the Data Analysis and Visualization team at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. His research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analysis, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning applied to predictive analysis and process optimization in scientific and engineering applications. Dr. Carrasco completed his bachelor's degree in Computer Science at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, USA, and obtained his doctorate in Information and Communication Technologies at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Mexico. His doctoral research focused on the automatic extraction of social networks from mobile data using machine learning and data mining techniques.
In 2013, he was admitted as a visiting researcher at FBK-CREATE-NET in the Department of Ubiquitous Technologies for Health, where he participated in a research project that studied mobility patterns extracted from GPS and Wi-Fi data using machine learning techniques to predict episodes of bipolar disorder. Later, in 2015, after completing his doctoral studies, he conducted a postdoctoral research stay at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center in the Department of Computer Applications in Science and Engineering with a scholarship awarded by CONACYT-Mexico. He was hired as a researcher in 2017 at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, where he continues to conduct research related to machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques applied to engineering and industrial problems. He has published research papers related to AI/ML modeling applied to fields ranging from human mobility to ubiquitous computing and from predictive maintenance to earthquake modeling. He has recently worked on understanding human mobility from Wi-Fi traces and computer vision technologies. The projects he is currently involved in include data science and artificial intelligence applied to the protection of critical infrastructures, as well as the design and development of an urban digital twin enhanced with HPC and AI.
