Biography

Daniela Lührsen is an environmental scientist with a love for maps. Her aim is to find solutions to environmental problems through the usage of spatial data. Throughout her academic career she has worked on a wide range of topics, including forest fires, droughts, water scarcity and infectious diseases.

In 2021, she worked with the laboratory of geo-information and remote sensing of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso (PUCV) on characterizing the impact of Chile's worst drought in centuries on the phenology of agricultural plantations and natural vegetation. Later, in 2022, she joined the Joint Research Center (JRC) of the European Comission as a trainee to help with the bias adjustment and downscaling of various CMIP6 models within the CORDEX project. Currently, she is working as a climate and health data scientist in the Global Health Resilience Team at the BSC, to produce toolkits that will help monitor and prevent the outbreak of climate sensitive infectious diseases.
