Biography

Dr Pedro Bonilla-Villalba obtained a Civil Engineering (Public Works) degree in 2004 from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). Next, he acquired professional engineering experience by spending several years in the design part of construction industry.

His research career started in 2014 when he obtained a MSc in Numerical Methods for Engineering from the UPC, followed by a PhD from Cardiff University in 2018. The latter delves into the simultaneous control of discretisation and stochastic errors on the framework of structural dynamics coupled with forward uncertainty propagation, as well as the analogy between error estimators and preconditioners.

In 2018 he joined the Resilient Materials for Life (RM4L) group at Cardiff University to derive and implement an ad hoc finite element, designed to model crack growth in a body of concrete, taking also into account the regain of material strength due to a healing agent flowing through these same cracks.

In 2020 he enrolled the Fusion group at Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) to contribute to ALYA HPC Finite Element software improvement and error control for Fusion applications.
