Job Title:PH D Positions in computer architecture / operating systems
Job Ref: Students CA-OS 09-10

Description:

Applications are invited for PhD students positions in the research lines of the Computer Science Department (http://www.bsc.es/plantillaF.php?cat_id=55) at Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS).

BSC-CNS is the National Supercomputing Facility in Spain and was officially constituted in April 2005. BSC-CNS manages MareNostrum, the most powerful supercomputer in Europe. The mission of BSC-CNS is to investigate, develop and manage information technology in order to facilitate scientific progress. With this aim, special dedication has been taken to areas such as Computational Sciences, Life Sciences and Earth Sciences. All these activities are complementary to each other and very tightly related. In this way, a multidisciplinary loop is set up: our exposure to industrial and non-computer science academic practices improves our understanding of the needs and helps us focusing our basic research towards improving those practices. The result is very positive both for our research work as well as for improving the way we service our society.

The candidates should have some background on:

- Computer Architecture (multi-threading and multi-core)
- Performance analysis
- Programming (C/C++, assembler,...)
- Operating Systems
- Digital circuits
- CMOS technology
- The ability to work in teams

We are offering several PhD Students positions for a period of 4 years (with possibility of extension) in the operating system/computer architecture interface group. In this group currently we have collaboration projects with several processor companies as well as several European projects. For a complete list of publications of the group in the last years, please visit: http://personals.ac.upc.edu/fcazorla/. For publications related to Digital circuits and CMOS technology visit http://personals.ac.upc.edu/jabella/

The objective of this position is to do a PhD in the field of the interaction between the processor architecture and the operating system with special emphasis on the power dissipation of systems.

Interested candidates should submit the following documents:

- A presentation letter with a explanation of research interest.
- C.V with contact data.

Please submit your applications to the following email address, indicating the offer reference Students CA-OS 09-10 in the subject message: rrhh@bsc.es
