BSC welcomes visitors from across Europe and from Brazil for the second EU Brazil Cloud Connect technical meeting.
From 4-6 June, BSC (Barcelona Supercomputing Center) welcomed researchers from Europe and Brazil for the second EU Brazil Cloud Connect technical meeting. A close collaboration between first-class European and Brazilian research centres spanning a range of disciplines, the project is working to create intercontinental, federated e-infrastructure which will help scientists address some of the most pressing societal issues affecting the two regions, in fields such as the treatment of rare diseases, climate and biodiversity.
During the meeting, attended by some 20 project representatives, participants discussed project progress and forthcoming plans for cross-continent collaboration. Different ways of engaging communities were considered, including plans to showcase project accomplishments at forthcoming events such as Cloudscape Brazil 2014 and apply the project’s cloud-computing solutions to use cases involving aspects of epidemiology, public health, biodiversity, natural resources and climate change.
BSC’s role in the project is to lead activities related to the development of the programming layer, contributing the COMPSs programming framework for the adaptation of applications, as well as being responsible for the heart simulator use cases, which are undertaken using its Alya System.
