Under the Severo Ochoa programme, the BSC will carry out multidisciplinary research to address the complex challenges in the path towards Exascale computing, co-developing energy efficient and high performance hardware and software platforms with applications in personalised medicine, modelling of human organs, and global models for climate change and air quality prediction. Within this context the junior developer on programming models will contribute to define the corresponding adaptations to the StarSs programming model in order to offer enough expressivity for the requirements of the applications and to develop the corresponding extensions in the runtime to take into account the underlying innovations in the resource management and storage layers.

Main Responsibilities

• Definition of the extensions to StarSs programming model to satisfy the project applications requirement. In the framework of the project the COMPSs and OmpSs implementations of StarSs are initially considered.
• Definition of the extensions required in the COMPSs programming model runtimes to support the programming model extensions and also to be able to interact with the innovations performed in the underlying layers, mainly the resource management and the storage layers.
• Preparation of project deliverables

Skill Specifications

• We will require good knowledge on programming languages (specially Java)
• We will value good knowledge on the Java loader and interception mechanisms
• We will value knowledge of parallel execution models (pthreads, MPI, etc)
• We will value Knowledge of cloud computing and virtualization middleware
• Fluency in English essential
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines and pressure
• Ability to work independently and in a team

Qualifications & Experience

• Graduate on Computer Science
• Capacity to interact and build strong relations with a diverse members/stakeholder/staff base.
• Willing to travel

The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Science department in collaboration with the specific program coordinator. The contract will be for 4 years.
